Our Castleton, New York building is equipped with the latest in educational technology. We offer a separate classroom, tear-down room, tool room, focus room, computer technology room, and a climate controlled air-exchange engine running room. Our goal to create an interactive educational environment for the novice or the Master Service Technician is possible only with assistance from you. The educational opportunities that await you at Atlantic Power are limitless.

Finding qualified technicians is becoming more and more difficult. Atlantic Power has and will continue to be a leader in assisting you to develop a proficient and well educated staff.

Authorized Field Service School

The AFSS is 4-day course based on the foundations of the Briggs & Stratton Service Network. This course covers everything from entry level to advanced. We will perform various hands-on procedures such as rewinds, carburetion, electrical troubleshooting, and a complete single cylinder OHV tear-down and reassembly. The course also covers all model identification numbers, parts look-up, service manuals, theory of engine components, warranty, and major engine failure analysis. All support material will be provided, along with lunch each day. Homework is given each night for review and reinforcement of the topics covered that day.

B&S Competency Exam Information

Test-out exams provide dealers the option of taking an exam in order to meet competency requirements. Passing a test-out exam does not, by itself, complete your authorization requirements. You may need to meet other requirements and request a test-out credit. Please contact your Atlantic Power Inc. Territory Rep for more details.

Diagnostic & Re-Powering

The Diagnostic & Re-Powering school is a 2-day course. In this class we will cover troubleshooting, failure analysis, and engine re-powering. You will have the opportunity to troubleshoot both engine and equipment scenarios. Discuss and review engine failure analysis. We will also cover re-powering scenarios, also help take away any fears and gueswork you may have.

Fuel, Governor, & Charging Systems

The Fuel, Governor, & Charging Systems school is a 2-day course. In this class you will learn about fuels, carburetion, governors, and charging systems. During these two days we will discuss fuel related concerns and dive inside carburetors to help troubleshoot potential problems. We will also cover how the governor system plays an important role in engine operation and show you the newest ways in charging system identification.

B&S Power Products Training

The BSPP (Briggs & Stratton Power Products) Portable Generator & Pressure Washers class is a 2 day course. It will cover everything from how to look-up and identify parts, operation, troubleshooting, maintenance, and how to repair both portable generators and pressure washers built by Briggs & Stratton. The first day covers support material, generator operation, wiring schematics, basic hands-on labs to help identify windings and a complete alternator tear-down. The second day gets into portable generator troubleshooting and pressure washer operation / troubleshooting.

Dolmar Power Products Training

Our Dolmar Power Products training class is a 2-day course covering an overview of the entire Dolmar product line. In this course we will cover warranty policies, new equipment set-up, as well as review troubleshooting procedures. In the "hands-on" area, we will tear-down and again cover troubleshooting procedures on multiple units, including some of our new 4-cycle units. You will also be asked to troubleshoot and diagnose problems on various pieces of "bugged" equipment, thereby simulating "real life" experiences. All support material will be provided, along with morning coffee and lunch both days.

Technical Update Seminar

We hold Briggs & Stratton Technical Updates every year to keep servicing dealers up to date with what's new and improved in the industry. Every year there is a new topic covering both the technical and business sides of your shop. Topics include warranty related issues, new products, improvements or changes to products, and service tips/tools from technicians in the industry.

Electrical Field Service School

The Briggs & Stratton Electrical Field Service School is 2-day course that aims to provide the necessary knowledge to eliminate the fear and confusion brought by today's modern electrical systems found in common lawn and garden equipment. Diamond Dealers can attend for FREE (1 tech, per dealer, per year).

This class is geared toward the student who already has a basic understanding of electrical theory. Day one covers the understanding of Ohm's Law and basic circuitry construction. Series, Parallel, and Series/Parallel circuits are covered in detail from theory to troubleshooting. Electrical test panels simulating a tractor harness will be used for understanding how to read schematics to easily navigate through a specific circuit. A series of labs will be performed to ensure your total understanding of all major circuits. Finally, a set of "bugged" riding lawn mowers will test your ability to decipher a written complaint and make quick and concise tests to determine the fault in a given electrical circuit.

Digital Meters will be provided, FREE of charge, to the students!

Vanguard / Big Block School

The Vanguard / Big Block school covers all twin-cylinder engines in the Vanguard line, including the new "Big Block" engines. In this course we will tear down three different engines and compliment it with basic maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair procedures. You will receive all of the necessary repair manuals to repair these units along with lunch each day.

Master Service Technician Exam

The Master Service Technician Exam is a Briggs & Stratton certified test. It measures a technicians ability to repair and troubleshoot Briggs & Stratton engines, along with warranty procedures and looking-up parts. The exam is now taken on the Power Channel which is located on the Power Portal website. It is broken up into five separate exams or categories in which all need to be passed by achieving a passing grade of 75% on each.
